Slow Art

  • April 2010, International Event organzied via facebook, eventbrite, social media, webinars, etc.
  • Focused on 3 permanent collection pieces at the Museum for 60 minutes, using the dialogic method. Visitors encouraged to look at each piece for 5 minutes, moving around the object, looking closely and further away, then opening up the dialogue for initial response, beginning with a word, or some other appropriate 'entryway' into the piece. Then, organic conversations happen, peppered with relevant information as it comes up.
  • This model was very successful, allowing 30 people to view 3 works in the collection with a focused and undistracted eye
  • We've incorporated looking exercises (ie HOW to look at an object) into workshops and iPod app.
